2018 Interiors Trends to Watch Out For

With 2017 well and truly behind us, it’s time to turn our attention to the new and exciting trends of the year ahead. A new year means a new opportunity to redecorate - and who doesn’t want a fresh look for their space? Here’s our predictions for what’s going to be hot (and not) in 2018…

Ultra Violet

Pantone, the global authority on colour, has declared their colour of 2018 to be ‘ultra violet’ and they are rarely wrong when it comes to matters of shade and hue. Although the interiors community hasn’t welcomed this energetic and enigmatic shade with enthusiasm, we predict that Ultra Violet will be giving Millennial Pink a run for its money in the homes of the super stylish by the end of the year.

A Touch of Brass

Copper has been the metal of choice in interiors for a few years now, but it’s time for brass to shine. Following on from the Art Deco interiors made popular once again last year, brass continues the trend into 2018. Often aged or tarnished, brass is the perfect companion with dark jade greens.

Statement Ceilings & Doors

If you want to really make a statement in your space, it’s time to look up! A colourful or patterned ceiling is an unexpected twist that will mark you as a real style maven. Painting your door to match your colour scheme is another extra touch that will really pull your room together and give you a truly modern look.

Glass Tiles

For a truly luxe look that’s really ahead of the curve, glass tiles and splashbacks are the trend to incorporate into your home in the coming year. Glass is surprisingly versatile and comes in a range of patterns, colours and mirrored finishes to suit your space, and will add a little ‘je ne sais quoi’ to your kitchen or bathroom.

Dark Kitchens

We’re moving over to the dark side in interiors this year, with white kitchens being replaced with darker hues of grey, navy and even matt black. It’s a little more grown-up, a little more sophisticated and a whole lot more 2018.

Herringbone Floors

In keeping with the return of gold and the swathe of darker kitchens, flooring is also getting a sophisticated update this year as those in the know lay down herringbone floors. Wood-effect tiles are a great material for this trend, as they’re durable as well as beautiful. For those looking to really stay on trend, opt for a stone herringbone look with marble tiles, or create an ombre effect moving your tiles from light to dark with matching effects.

Statement Art

Gallery walls have had their moment; it’s time to go big and bold with your wall art. Large, statement pieces and oversized patterns are going to be showing up more and more in the coming year, so it’s time to start searching for something you really love. This goes for accessories and decoration too, not just your walls and floors!
