Experimenting with tile laying patterns

By necessity kitchens need to be practical, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with the interior. One way to let your creativity flow and your personality shine is by experimenting with tile laying patterns.

Take the iconic metro tile and put a twist on this timeless classic with a basket-weave or herringbone pattern. If you’ve got your eye on a square tile, consider placing them as diamonds instead.

Choosing the right kitchen floor tile

Kitchens are a practical space with lots of footfall, so they need to be hard-wearing as well as looking great too.

We love the look of wooden flooring in the kitchen, but using wood can mean lots of maintenance to keep it in tip top condition. Our wood effect floor tiles are the perfect substitute, providing the design you desire without all the hassle. Easy to keep clean and strong under foot, they’re practical too.

The kitchen is often the heart of the home with many now starting to combine it with their living space for a larger room the whole family can enjoy. Large format tiles and their easy maintenance reputation makes them a great choice for kitchen spaces. They’re impactful in design, too, making rooms feel more spacious and airy. Just what you need in a busy kitchen!

Making the most of your splashback

Splashbacks are super practical and great for adding the finishing touches to your room design. In some cases, they can make a stand-out statement too.

Partial splashbacks are great for protecting specific surface areas, such as behind taps and cookers. Full splashbacks make a more impactful feature in the room and, of course, offer the ultimate protection from any kitchen mishaps.

An alternative to the ceramic tile splashback is glass. Glass splashbacks are cost-effective as they don’t need much maintenance after they’ve been installed. They’re also easy to keep clean, simple to install and highly heat and impact resistant. Available in a variety of colours and patterns, including designs by Laura Ashley, they are definitely worth considering.

Kitchen tiles and colour

Whether you love bold colours or prefer something a little more subtle, picking interior colours is one of the best parts of decorating.

When it comes to kitchen colours, there’s a whole host of options out there for you. Timeless colour combinations include white on white, English cottage greens and neutral shades with cosy wood textures.

For a more contemporary interior, we’re loving dark cabinets combined with white metro tiles or hexagon tiles, and our charcoal grey patterned Laura Ashley Mr Jones tile.

Rich, deep tile colours in shades of emerald and sapphire are a great choice for the kitchen too, as they complement brass, gold and copper tones. When creating this on trend art-deco look and feel, our V&A metro tiles make a great choice.
