Shades of Grey

Shades of Grey

This post is now over a year old, so certain aspects of this post may no longer be correct or relevant.

Shades of Grey is still a really popular colour palette for interiors this year. When talking to many of our customers we are hearing that the sales of grey or ‘greige’ tiles are out stripping the once favourite Beige.

Last year the grey palette was nuanced with complimentary tones – so we saw warm greys which harmonised perfectly with minks or even fuschia pinks as highlights. It was almost a stepping stone into greys.

Those looks are still there, but the grey this year is a more confident grey. It is cooler generally – less of a greige, and the coordination is with other tones of grey. We are seeing mixes of charcoals or anthracite greys and mid or light toned greys. The impact comes from the layering of tones.  Kelly Hoppen is a grey devotee, the designer works grey in a way that brings the colour to life (without additional accent colours) with the clever use of textures and materials.
