White on White

White on White

This post is now over a year old, so certain aspects of this post may no longer be correct or relevant.

It may seem obvious, even ordinary, but grasping the crisp, fresh tones of white for your interiors is a bold and confident step. It's a pure and simple colour that helps lighten rooms and add an uncluttered feel. Whether you stick wholly to pure white, or use it as a backdrop for adding other colours, you can't go wrong with timeless white.

Rachel Ashwell of Shabby Chic shares the way to avoid clinical and achieve the 'lived in' look, "think rumpled linens and chipped paint gussied up by crystal chandeliers and fresh flowers."

So then, it seems that the trick to achieving this clean, fresh and bright look is to add depth through layers and being creative with different textures. For example, with a white tiled floor or rug, try a whitewashed panelled wall, gloss white ornaments and mirrors for reflection, fresh bridal lilies and try a lace throw or table cloth to soften the lines of your room.

The fresh and calming tones of white can be used to contrast with pretty much ANY other colour, making it easier than ever to regularly change your look to keep on trend; add a splash of accent colour to complement if needed, through soft furnishings - curtains, throws, artwork, cushions, rugs - which can be easily replaced to follow trends.

We're loving right now...
